![]() crw files with DxO now! However, I would not be able to open the DNG either if I’ve understood the faqs. Would I achieve better future proofing by converting these raws to 16bit tiffs and excepting the gigantic file sizes?īut the change you can’t open a rawfile in the feature is not likely. CRW format is dated 1997 and I believe that canon moved on to their. CRW raws from a Canon G5 circa 2003 which do not look like tiff (despite what the documentation states) and this set me thinking about how long the writers of image editing software will continue to support old formats. ![]() You may ask why am I interested? Well I have been digging around in raw files looking for jpeg thumbnails and I have noticed that while most are based tiff files some are not. (My best guess is that it is something to do with lens corrections) So I am curious why DxO faqs state that Photolab will only open DNG files that are based on raw files that it can open directly. My understanding “was” that DNG was a free to use format, based on tiff, that should enable the image to be opened by any raw converter that can process raw files.įor example before I upgraded to OS Catalina (64bit) I could process DNG files that had been created from Panasonic G9 raw files in Apple Aperture even though Aperture could not open the raw files directly. I am trying to decide if I should convert some of my older raw files to DNG using Adobe’s converter as a means of archiving them.
